March 1 Buddha Jayanti, also known as Buddha Purnima or Vesak, is the most sacred festival in the Buddhist calendar, celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and passing (Mahaparinirvana) of Gautama Buddha. In Nepal, it is a national holiday of immense pride as the Buddha was born in Lumbini around 623 BCE.
